Church of San Miguel de Reoyo

The parish of San Miguel is one of the most emblematic religious buildings in Peñafiel.

The architecture is sober and elegant, in a late Renaissance style typical of the end of the 16th century, although it also features 12th century Romanesque elements on the section adorned with Gospel motifs.

Inside, it has three divided naves, with pillars and semicircular arches, which support vaults decorated with diamond plasterwork. The transept is covered by a dome resting on pendentives. On the section adorned with Gospel motifs, by the foot of the church, we find an apse from an ancient Romanesque church from the late 12th century, with remains of Gothic frescoes from the late 14th century. It accommodates notable Baroque altarpieces devoted to the tears of Saint Peter, San Roque, Francis Borgia, Teresa of Ávila, the Nazarene, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and to the Calvary, as well as two main altarpieces devoted to Saint Michael and San Salvador de los Escapulados.
